One common plumbing issue is when there is debris plugging up your p-trap. If you are not aware what a p-trap is, it is the curved pipe that you will find underneath the sink which prevents sewer gas from escaping into your home. Some p-traps have a means of accessing the bend, allowing you to clean out debris from there occasionally, or you could use a snake to clean it out. But debris is not the only issue that you might need to deal with when it comes to your p-trap.
Sometimes a sink that isn’t used for a long time can dry out. In that case, you will be aware quickly due to the smells that sewer gas brings with it. Remembering to run water down your sink every so often might not be easy for you, so there is a device that you can install called a tap primer. This will automatically add some water to the p-trap when needed.
