People may not know that cats need to scratch. They do this to stretch their muscles, leave their scent, and help shed the outer parts of their nails. Most people do not want their cats scratching up their furniture though. So here are a few ways to stop your cat from scratching your furniture.
The first way to stop your cat from scratching is to try a scent deterrent spray. You simply spray the scent deterrent where your cat scratches. You may need to frequently reapply this spray because the spray tends to wear off quickly.
Another way to try to stop your cat is by attaching aluminum foil or plastic panels to the areas where your cat scratches. You can purchase plastic panels that are made specifically for cat scratching. This may not be the most attractive option, but cats do not like to scratch these textures.
The last way is to make sure you offer plenty of areas where your cat can scratch. So if you purchase scratching posts, try ones that are made at an angle or a horizontal scratching mat, rather than straight vertical posts. Cats tend not to prefer vertical ones. Also, place these posts in an area where your cat spends the most time.
These are just a few ways to help your cat to stop scratching up your furniture.
