Water runs through the walls and floors of your home, but you might not think much about that. Since running water has been an essential part of modern living for so long, it is easy for us to forget how much life can be disrupted without it. You also might forget how damaging water can be.
The water supply lines inside your walls carry water at a rate of around 14 gallons per minute, so you can imagine what the effect would be if one of them sprung a leak. While this isn’t a common occurrence, it does happen at times. For example, you might have some work done on your home, and a contractor unwittingly cuts right through a pipe.
Or maybe you are having some plumbing work done, and someone forgets to shut off the valve before removing something that is still under pressure. While it might be easy to freak out in a situation like that, it is important to do things in the right order. Trying to block the water will not work, you need to go directly to the shutoff valve to stop the water flow. Sometimes this might mean going straight to the main shutoff valve.
