Hummingbirds are amazing birds that can only be found in the Americas. So we have the unique privilege of being able to observe these birds. Here are a couple of hummingbird feeder care tips to help you to keep those hummingbirds healthy.
The first tip is to make your own food instead of buying expensive hummingbird food. You can simply make your own mixture by heating up, but not boiling, 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. After the sugar dissolves, remove it from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. You also do not need to add any food coloring to your mixture, nectar in nature is clear and the food coloring can be dangerous to hummingbirds. After the mixture is cool, add it to your feeder.
The second tip is to regularly clean your hummingbird feeder. If your feeder did not come with a cleaning brush, you can use a pipe cleaner or a bottle brush to clean your hummingbird feeder. Also, try to clean your hummingbird feeder twice a week in warmer weather, and once a week in cooler weather. You will be surprised how quickly mold can grow and dirt can collect in your feeder, which can also be dangerous to hummingbirds and their babies.
These are just a couple of tips to keep your feeder clean to help you keep the hummingbirds healthy.
